A White House Calligrapher from the Reagan years called me a few days ago. She knew of me. I didn’t know her. But we’re learning more about the work each other does, what we have in common, and what we don’t. Anxious to meet the talented lady, to hear her stories and learn from her as well.
Below is the bottle she received from me less than 24 hours after it was engraved and put on FedEx to her door. I was inspired by her phone call and wanted to raise her interest level a bit more for what I do and teach. At the end of our phone conversation, I composed the rhyme, engraved the bottle, boxed it up, and had it to FedEx inside of 50 minutes. May be a record.
Will share photos and more with you after she attends one of my upcoming Workshops in August, September, and October.
About the bottle:
A 1.5 liter bottle of Riesling. I used a #6 round carbide for the first letter on each side. Her name, above the front label, was also done with a #6. Keeping her name private for now; you’ll meet her later. A new #3 round carbide was used for each side…two burs. Silver Leaf Rub ‘N Buff was added to the engraving.
Got the phone call yesterday 5 minutes after she opened the box to find her bottle. She was delighted.
She has been out of the White House for over 30 years. Her main activity for some time has been painting monograms, with fine brushes and special paint, on wine bottles and wine glasses. Being able to engrave her lettering will raise the bar considerably on her earning potential.
