KEN BROWN ENGRAVING TALKS ABOUT THE T…AND AN ANNIVERSARY.

HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY

Didn’t know J.M. Morton.  Not an individual where I grew up in SE Oklahoma remembers him.  He had checked out before any of us were born.  A marble plaque put in place to mark his death 100 years ago this year has been seen by countless thousands.

Those thousands have forgotten this milestone anniversary of the legendary commissioner.  The courthouse has been overhauled, remodeled, modernized, and is barely reminiscent of the original structure where a hallowed place on the inside north wall still reminds us of his untimely passing.

We can only guess what unfortunate, or possibly pleasurable, experience prevented his seeing the completion of the magnificent courthouse in Choctaw County.  His plaque has become a part of the area’s colorful history and folklore.

So, shall we raise a Toast for Mr. Morton?

Let’s hope he got lucky.

Yes, we can all hope that was the case. I read some history about him and the consensus showed he was a stand-up guy!
