Of course knives and guns are almost staples to us engravers. I see one or the other of them every week. Sometimes several in one week. Occasionally, someone will want a name on a leather sheath. This customer wanted a quote about a rock group.
If the leather is hard like a saddle, it engraves nicely. Softer leathers won’t work. The insides of some belts work great and I’ve personalized a fair number of those. A couple of months ago I put several words on a 3″ wide guitar strap. Be careful with the serifs and letters with centers like the a, d, e, g, etc. You have to keep the letters simple. You can use the basic script we all use but forget the serifs and loops.
Just published another BrownLines™ that has an approach to the April Engraving Seminar with a twist. See the full issue here.
