In a small circle of students I’ve trained, there has been a discussion of a closed group of my Ken Brown Certified Engravers. We’d not be a company or platoon or battalion, but a relatively small cadre of people with common interests and talents. Each of us has unique experiences, and we all have common ones that are often handled quite differently. Sharing what we know with each other would likely be highly beneficial to everyone participating. Participation is the key word. If you’re in, you’re expected to contribute your ideas and experiences via some messaging format.
The group would absolutely be limited to those who have received their Certification and become eligible to call themselves ‘Ken Brown Certified.’ I started this cottage industry 23 years ago, and I’m probably the busiest of them all. Only a few dozen students earned that title after having taken the 3.5 day the basic training and completed the 10-15 week Certification program. Those students have risen faster, they earn more, and are most successful of all who have come to my training sessions. Anyone interested from those ranks would be the core group to start.
In the past two blogs, I’ve spoken about the opportunities for those who came and didn’t take, or took and didn’t finish the program. We’ve offered a way to get previous students back up to speed with a refresher class, and/or a way to reboot the Certification to up the ante on their potential to be productive and profitable hand-engravers of Calligraphy. There are far, far more opportunities than there are our kind of engravers.
I’ve talked about frequent requests I get from large promotional companies across the country looking for me to supply names of my students who are qualified for the jobs. So often those opportunities go unanswered because the students who stay in touch with me tell me they’re already booked, or I’ve no recent contact with others who got their Certification and seem to disappear. This group would tie us together and be helpful to many whose work and whereabouts I know. I get NO compensation for referrals from the student or the promotional company, yet I’m thrilled to pass along the work when possible.
Let me see a show of hands with a note from you, to me, if interested in this new group….if you are already Certified. Also let me know if you want to reapply for the Certification program and I’ll give you the details and special prices for your return when we talk or write.
If this generates questions of any kind about this possible group, let me hear from you. Email to me: kenbrownlines@me.com Your suggestions are also welcome as we decide whether or not to proceed. In any event, you’ll hear it here.
Now, we’ll see how many of those who passed through my Workshops want to dress up their future. Christmas is coming.
-Ken
